The care at home system is moving towards a more consumer-driven, market-based and nationally consistent system. Important reforms in home care were introduced in February 2017 to give consumers more choice in selecting a home care provider. There is now also a nationally consistent process for assigning home care packages to consumers.
Before making decisions on future reform, the Government wants to hear further from the sector on what you believe is the best way forward. They are seeking your views on how future reform can best support older Australians to remain living at home and in their communities. Connecting with our country communities is at the heart of our organisation and one of the ways we do this is through providing presentations and information to community groups through our “Valley to Coast" project. A project that gives us the opportunity to build on existing community connections and create new ones through sharing our knowledge as a service provider out into the community.Last week we had the pleasure of talking to Marion Bay Residents on the Yorke Peninsula at a combined community presentation that saw us join forces with the local CFS, Community Transport services, SA Ambulance, SA Police and the local Community Health. This combined Community presentation gave the local community a real show of support and some much needed information about the type of services and assistance that they have access to. It was a fantastic afternoon, full of inforamtion and all very much welcomed by the Marion Bay residents.
Our aim over the next year is to provide many more presentations wheither its joining forces with other organisations or coming to your individual community group where we can share the latest information in aged care and more importantly to be there to answer any questions people may have. A successful day was had by all, at Kadina's first Seniors Expo. Held at the Kadina Town Hall on the 17th of October, the hall was full with organisations that represent home care services across the Yorke Peninsula, along with other allied health and support organisations.
We were represented by our staff members Lauren and Paula who felt the expo was a success and are looking forward to attending next year's expo. It is through events such us these that we are able to meet and connect with our community.
Country Home Services was proud to be a finalist at the ACS SA & NT Awards for Excellence in the category of Innovation in Service. This was achieved through Country Home Services Project – “Valley to Coast: Reform in Action”. A project that at its core was designed to build on existing community connections and create new ones through shifting and sharing our knowledge as a service provider out into the community. Our approach and businesses commitment was based around two key philosophies: "Can do approach: Solutions to the most obscure challenges" and "Imagination, our commitment to find the tools to make life better".
This project was introduced through recognising the need that Aged Care consumers in our region would require more meaningful and clear information than what was being delivered through the referral and assessment processes as the My Aged Care Network was introduced. It was our goal to provide easy to understand information sessions to our region which spans across a 26 000 sq. km area (which covers Yorke Peninsula, Lower North and Barossa Valley)
Through these information sessions we have reached over 40 unique groups across our region and are still providing these aged care information sessions as we move into the next financial year.
